Functional Testing and Assessment

What is Functional Testing and Assessment?

Advanced testing through samples of urine, saliva and blood. Testing can include food sensitivities testing, assessing hormone status, comprehensive digestive stool analysis, fatty acid testing, hormone testing and nutrient status

If we want to get to the root cause of disease, we have to understand what is going on in our bodies. And the fact is, the current blood tests that are done on annual check ups are not enough. If they were, we would all be healthy and free of disease. To really start to understand where disease symptoms are coming from, we need to investigate using the right testing markers. Without the right testing and workup, patients will often spend precious time, money and effort to no or little resolve.

The EBL Approach

At EBL we use a variety of functional assessment tests to take the guesswork out, to understand what is going on in the body, and to guide treatment for effective comprehensive treatment.  We use a variety of testing to better be able to uncover true root causes of disease and dysfunction, and more effectively bring people back to a state of optimal health.

There are a variety of ways we utilize testing to start and guide treatment. Advanced testing and testing markers are assessed through blood, saliva, urine and stool.

A few of the tests we utilize are:

Food Sensitivity Testing: foods are often a trigger for many people, either causing symptoms or exacerbating existing conditions. Most often people will try to eliminate one food or another, without ever understanding which foods are the offenders. Utilizing a food sensitivity test (IgG or more advanced) can help identify which foods are causing immune over-reactivity, and creating various symptoms.

Hormone Testing: usually done through saliva or urine, advanced hormone testing can give us better insight into hormones such as cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and dheas. Understanding the complexity of these hormone systems are an invaluable tool in understanding fatigue, PMS, menopausal symptoms, and especially fertility.

Fatty Acid testing: We all know the buzz around taking Omega-3 fatty acids, but really diving into our ratios of Omega3-Omega 6-Omega 9 fatty acids in our body can be an invaluable tool in assessing inflammation and cardiovascular risk disease.

Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis: imbalances in gut microbes and infections with pathogenic microbes has been heavily linked with the development of major conditions including autoimmune diseases. Testing the stool for can provide the missing link to uncovering the root causes of many modern diseases and conditions.

Nutrient Testing: nutrient testing can help uncover what may be missing, what isn’t getting assimilated, and which pathways may be affected. Once we undertand this, we can better assess and start addressing where some of the breakdowns may be .
