What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture, rooted in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is an ancient therapy dating centuries. During acupuncture treatment,  very thin (sterile) needles are inserted into the skin or muscles at specific points to stimulate small wells of energy. This energy, Qi (pronounced Chee) flows through various channels/meridians in the body representing organ systems. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, dysfunction occurs when this flow of energy is blocked. Acupuncture therefore acts to stimulate a smooth flow of this energy, decreasing symptoms and improving the balance of various systems in the body.
